Central Grocery -vs- Franks

Hi everyone!

As Saff and I have been planning our trip many people have suggested we go to Central Grocery to get a Muffaletta.

You may have read yesterday that by the time we go there CG's was closed.

After much turmoil and a random good smaratian we ended up 2 shops down at Franks.

The muffaletta we got was AWESOME.. service as mentioned yesterday was ... a little on the crazy side.. but fun.

Well today.. we decided that we just could not pass up on having a muffaletta from CG's. Afterall SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many people suggested we go there. Even our tour guide today said that was the 'only place to go'.

off we went.. walking about a bagillion miles to finally arrive at CG's. We were so exhausted by the time we got there all we wanted to do was sit at a nice table, get a cold beverage and a tasty muffaletta.

There are no actual tables at CGs.. you sit on stools at a kinda bar.

So here it is... Central Grocery -vs- Franks

Dining arangements:

Franks has tables and actual chairs, CG's has stools at a bar.

Franks has waiters (crazy but w/e), CG's has a counter where you order.. like at McDonalds

Franks has silverware, CG's has napkins

Food:

The muffaletta at Franks was warm, the bread was soft, the cheese was melted. It was fresh and very very good. The sandwich was made AFTER we ordered it and came out nice and fresh on an actual plate. Franks has fountain soda.

The muffaletta at CG's was premade - stored in a fridge because I guess they mass make them at some point. It was cold, the bread was firm and chewy and tasted like it had been in the fridge for a while. The meat was greasy and I didn't even see any cheese. There was a lot more olives on this one as well which was good but did not make up for all the other downsides. CG's has a coke machine where you can buy a canned soda for $1.25 each!

So overall we have decided when getting a Muffaletta in NOLA go to Franks .. not CG's. It is 2 doors down and the food is EXCELLENT! The wait staff is entertaining and the price is about the same as CG's but the food is 10 times better. :)

sorry to everyone who thinks CG's is better.. it just isn't!
